After a week of rain, the morning of May 14th dawned......still raining! In fact, it poured! But braving the elements, 75 hearty Ottawa souls came out anyway, and participated in our Big Sit. Of these, 68 dogs were successful in completing the 2 minute stay. Despite the miserable weather, the day was still a great success - thanks to our generous sponsors, most participants were able to go home with a door prize. And again, we were able to raise almost $2000 to help fund OVSARDA operations.

Thanks to all who took part in 2006.

Watch this website for details on our next attempt.

We are committed to getting this record for Ottawa, and we're going to do it!

Several people and their canine companions joined us for the first Big Sit on May 15, 2005
where we attempted to set a world record for the most dogs doing a simultaneous sit or down stay. Of the approximately 140 participants, about 120 dogs successfully performed a sit or down stay for 2 minutes while on leash beside their owners. It was a great effort, but we did fall short of the current record.

Thanks to you, we were able to raise over $2000 to help fund our operations.

Your contributions helped us send two dog teams to the OPP K9 Academy in Gravenhurst, where they recertified for another year of service to this community. OVSARDA continues to lead Ontario in this area - our dogs were the first to meet the demanding OPP requirements, and we are proud to say that the majority of Ontario's volunteer search dogs are members of our team. In fact, in 2005 OVSARDA representatives we asked to travel to Orillia to present a demonstration to the Ontario SAR Volunteer Association on the abilities of the highly trained SAR dog.

Thanks to the funds raised by the Big Sit 2005, the OVSARDA was able to respond to several searches.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to perform much needed maintenance on our boat. The boat sees heavy usage during the summer months, when we are frequently involved in the search for drowning victims.

Big Sit funds were also used to offset the cost of several local search operations, as well as radio licensing fees and insurance.
